How Then Shall We Pray

How then shall we pray?

When the words will not fall from our lips

When the pain runs deeper than we knew capable of ourselves

When the truth we thought we knew meets the truth of it all and falls into its shadows

What then?

When the tears find the back of your eyes and won’t fall

When the pain of those you love finds your own heart and for a moment you know it like they do

Yet you know there is nothing you can do but fall on your face and beg

For mercy and grace

Mercy and grace over them

Because apart from Christ there is no hope

There is no peace

There is no life

Carried on the wings of the saints that surround

Carried on by the simple faith of a child stating, again

Yes dear God again

I come again to you

Because you alone have completed the finished work

How then shall we pray?

With a broken spirit laid out

Laid down and out

Poured out to be a sweet aroma to the blessed Abba

And then as the tears fall to wash the feet of a blessed savior

How then shall we pray?

Repent, Rejoice, Repent, Rejoice

Live in full faith of a complete and fulfilled work

How then shall we pray?

As if our every breath depends upon, every breath

We pray as we breathe

A return of that first breath, breathed into us

Granting life and worshipful existence

We breathe and pray

Because it is all we can do

But is all we must do

His work is completed, it is finished

How then shall we pray?

Our father in heaven

Hallowed be your name

Your kingdom come

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our debts

As we also have forgiven our debtors

And lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil.

This is how we pray, as he prayed before and over us

Before we were known by this realm

And to that we say

Amen

So be it
